Flint Hills Resources (Koch) is seeking a Process Control Engineer/Specialist to join our Corpus Christi refinery team. In this role, you will design and implement process control strategies that optimize refinery performance, improve reliability, and enhance operator effectiveness. Our Team
Our team is applying a collaborative, team-based approach to our Optimization and Process Control Capability, leveraging new technologies, modernizing work processes, and driving innovation.
We are developing a full range of process control solutions to improve refinery profitability—from regulatory and DCS-based model predictive control to Advanced Process Control (APC), Procedure Automation (PA), and Real-Time Optimization (RTO).
We recognize the value of experience and expertise. As such, the salary for this position will be commensurate with the candidate's years of experience and demonstrated skills.
What You Will Do
- Design, implement, and optimize regulatory control strategies (PID, cascade, feedforward) and DCS-based model predictive controls
- Identify and execute opportunities to improve unit performance, reliability, and constraint management
- Partner with Operations to ensure process control applications deliver sustained value and high uptime
- Troubleshoot complex process control and plant stability issues to improve overall performance
- Develop and scale Procedure Automation applications to enhance operator efficiency and consistency
- Provide ongoing support, tuning, and optimization for process control systems
- Contribute to capital projects by providing process control expertise and technical input
- Collaborate across Koch companies through knowledge networks and technical forums
- Serve as a technical resource and, based on experience, mentor and elevate team capability
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Experience in process control within refining, petrochemical, or similar industrial environments
- Engineering degree or equivalent process control/automation experience
- Knowledge of process troubleshooting, plant stability, and control tuning
What Will Put You Ahead
- Significant experience applying process control in complex refining or petrochemical systems
- Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing advanced regulatory or model predictive controls
- Experience with Procedure Automation or sequencing applications
- Experience with Emerson DeltaV or similar DCS platforms
- Demonstrated ability to identify and drive opportunities that improve operational or business performance
- Experience mentoring or developing other engineers
- Knowledge of ISA 18.2 alarm management concepts
- Experience with coding, analytics, or data tools (e.g., Python)
This role is subject to the Transportation Workers Identification Credentialing (TWIC) rule and requires the successful candidate to obtain a TWIC identification badge, allowing for un-escorted access to the facility within a specific time period.
