DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:(4 to 5 are recommended, but no more than 9)
1. Lead the design of protective packaging for fiber optic products using advanced CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or specialized optical packaging software).
2. Develop custom foam inserts, cushioning systems, and anti-static solutions to protect optical surfaces from scratches, dust, and mechanical shock.
3. Optimize packaging geometry to maximize space efficiency in shipping containers and minimize material waste.
4. Evaluate and select packaging materials (e.g., EVA foam, anti-static polymers, corrugated fiberboard) based on environmental conditions (humidity, temperature, vibration).
5. Conduct drop tests, compression tests, and environmental simulations to validate packaging performance against industry standards (ISTA, ASTM)
6. Apply GD&T principles to ensure precise alignment of fiber optic components within packaging, preventing misalignment during transport.
7. Work with production teams to implement packaging solutions, ensuring seamless integration with assembly lines and automated handling equipment.
8. Assist in creating BOMs and supporting documentation for manufacturing.
SCOPE: Lead the development of innovative and protective packaging solutions for fiber optic products, including connectors, adapters, and optical jumpers. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure packaging meets stringent environmental, durability, and cost efficiency requirements while safeguarding sensitive optical components.
EDUCATION:
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or a related field (Master’s preferred)
PREFERRED: None
WORK EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED: 3+ years mechanical design experience
PREFERRED: 3+ years in packaging design, with 2+ years specializing in fiber optic or precision optical products
SKILLS & ABILITIES:(If the nature of the position requires certain certificates, they should be specified here)
REQUIRED: • Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) for 3D modelling and simulation.
• Strong understanding of GD&T and its application in precision alignment systems.
• Knowledge of fiber optic handling best practices (e.g., cleanroom protocols, contamination control).
• Familiarity with protective materials (foams, plastics, metals) and their interaction with optical surfaces.
• Experience with environmental testing (ISTA, ASTM) and failure analysis.
• Experience with simulation tools (ANSYS, COMSOL) for stress analysis of packaging components.
• Knowledge of industry standards (Telcordia GR-326-CORE, IEC 61386) for fiber optic packaging.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment.
PREFERRED: • English CET 6 or above, or equivalent. Proficient in reading and writing. Adequate in verbal communication.
