Our Gypsum Facility in Blue Rapids is looking for a Process Engineer. This role will optimize production processes, troubleshooting and resolve technical issues, lead improvement projects improvement projects and supporting capital projects (coordination with Project Engineering). The role partners with Operations, Maintenance, EH&S, and Project teams to improve yield, reduce variability, conserve energy and ensure process safety and regulatory compliance.

The Blue Rapids facility employs approximately 130 individuals in supporting Georgia-Pacific as one of the nation’s leading gypsum board manufacturers. What You Will Do
- Leveraging data systems and direct inspections to assess and monitor equipment for output quality, variability, reliability, and rate.
- Providing direct plant support in troubleshooting, asset strategies, project development and execution.
- Supporting and developing network of plant asset owners through mentorship, operating procedures, best practices, and Knowledge Shares.
- Leading projects that restore, maintain and improve operations.
- Developing and applying strategies to optimize on-going operations with automation and innovative technologies.
- Lead and participate in HAZOPs, incident investigations, change management and permit activities to ensure process safety and environmental compliance.
- Generate process documentation: PFDs/P&IDs (review/update), process narratives, SAFETY/operability assessments, and training materials.
- Support vendor selection and technical evaluations for process equipment and control systems; partner with Purchasing on specifications.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Two (2) or more years of process engineering, and/or building products manufacturing experience.
- Must have experience with Root Cause Analysis, performance gap identification and analysis, and project planning and execution.
- Must be able and willing to work in an industrial manufacturing plant environment, including extended periods of time in noisy, dusty, non-air conditioned or unheated areas.
- Ability to work on-site and support shift/extended hours during troubleshooting, commissioning, or start-up events.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products.
What Will Put You Ahead
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or a related technical discipline.
- Experience leading improvement teams.
- Ability to develop and execute preventative maintenance procedures.
- Process mapping and optimization skills.
- Data mining and analysis skills.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS); MP2 desired.
- 3–7+ years’ experience in a manufacturing/process industry (chemical, minerals, pulp & paper, cement, or similar).
- Hands-on experience with process simulation/modeling tools (Aspen, HYSYS, MATLAB) and/or process-control tools (DCS/PLC basics).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and P&ID review.
- Experience with SPC, DOE, root cause methodologies, and Lean/Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt preferred).
- Experience participating in HAZOPs, PSM/RMP, or similar process safety programs.
- Experience with Ecosys, MS Project, or other project/cost tracking tools is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or related certifications a plus.
