As a Manufacturing Engineering Molding Process Engineer, you will play a critical role in qualifying new and existing tooling and ensuring successful mold releases within project timelines. You will work closely with Product Designers, Mold Designers, and Production teams to support new tooling launches, optimize molding processes, and drive continuous improvements in manufacturing performance.
Our Team
You will be part of the CCS Manufacturing Engineering team based in Penang, Malaysia. Our team works closely with Production Engineers, Tooling Engineers, Toolmakers, internal stakeholders, and external suppliers to support new product introductions, tooling development, mold qualification, and process optimization. Together, we focus on delivering high-quality manufacturing solutions that enable operational excellence and continuous improvement.
What You Will Do
- Collaborate with Product Designers, Mold Designers, and Development teams to improve tooling designs based on mold concepts, product features, and functional requirements.
- Prepare and execute tooling qualification plans from internal and external debugging activities through final mold release to production.
- Develop process optimization documentation, including IE rate sheets, holding pressure optimization studies, and workflow standards.
- Maintain mold qualification and process optimization records within Molex E-Doc systems to ensure traceability and future reference.
- Evaluate first article trial results against product drawing specifications, submit parts for internal qualification, identify dimensional issues, and collaborate with Mold and Product Designers to implement corrective actions and improvements.
- Document debugging findings, process troubleshooting activities, and lessons learned to support successful mold handovers to Production teams.
- Lead new material qualification activities and support debugging efforts for new products and business opportunities.
- Travel to suppliers and manufacturing sites to support development activities, process fine-tuning, and successful project releases.
- Support Production teams with tooling improvement initiatives, including refurbishment and process optimisation projects, to improve product cost competitiveness and reduce the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
- Manage supplier development and implementation activities for existing and new product programmes while providing technical support for Molex-owned tooling operating at supplier locations.
- Support and contribute to Molex Total Quality Management (TQM), Six Sigma, ISO, Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S), and other management systems by following established policies and procedures.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Diploma or Degree in an Engineering discipline with relevant industry experience.
- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities within established timelines.
- Proficient in basic computer applications, including word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and share technical knowledge with engineering colleagues.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Educational background in an engineering discipline related to molding processes, with knowledge of technical drawings.
- 5–10 years of experience in mold processing, tooling qualification, and tooling troubleshooting.
- Experience using NX or equivalent 2D/3D modelling and design software.
- Exposure to connector mold design and connector molding processes.
- Understanding of tooling design, tooling specifications, tool assembly, and troubleshooting methodologies.
