Georgia-Pacific, a subsidiary of Koch Industries, one of the largest privately held companies in America, is seeking a Power and Drives Engineering Manager to lead our Power and Drives capital projects team. This role can be based out of one of our facilities, or it can be home-based.
You will support GP’s largest capital opportunities across the country for our Consumer Products, Packaging & Cellulose, and Dixie manufacturing sites. The Engineering Manager provides technical, project, and business leadership as well as mentorship to their team of engineers and project managers. The Engineering Manager reports to the Director of Electrical and Controls Projects.
Our Team
The Georgia-Pacific Projects and Engineering Team consists of approximately 130 individuals across the United States. We are engineers, project managers, subject matter experts, and designers working with our 22 continuous manufacturing facilities to achieve one team, one vision, one result. The Power and Drives team focuses on delivering projects with an emphasis in power distribution, machine drive systems, engineering solutions, and technology platforms that enable our manufacturing capability to compete, win, and lead in the marketplace.
What You Will Do
- Manage a team of electrical project engineers ensuring they are assigned to the highest value work.
- Collaborate with project managers, discipline leaders, external/internal engineering resources, platform leaders, and operations to develop and execute capital projects and scalable electrical improvement initiatives as a team.
- Develop and review project deliverables including estimates, schedules, designs, and installation packages. Successfully deliver the scope of work on budget and on time throughout detailed design, construction, turnover to operations, and project closeout.
- Use judgment and critical thinking skills to accomplish goals, increase efficiency, and stay within project budget.
- Support commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment such as protective relays, switchgear, and drive systems.
- Improve and implement our standards and specifications for electrical equipment, installation, and commissioning.
- Participate in the development, evaluation, recommendation, and selection of equipment platforms with cross functional teams.
- Help investigate and reduce electrical equipment obsolescence risks across the enterprise.
- Communicate complex technical issues to a varied audience and consult as a power and drive systems Subject Matter Expert.
- Provide leadership for internal/external engineering resources to drive project proposals, completion, and engineering standards.
- Review conceptual and detailed engineering and designs completed by partner engineering firms.
- Identify project risks and assist in mitigating impacts to the project.
- Provide field support on major milestones in engineering, construction, startup, and commissioning.
- Evaluate engineering firm’s performance against objectives and provide feedback to promote corrective action and continuous improvement.
- Apply Koch Industry’s Principle Based Management (PBM®) business philosophy to drive long term value creation and support GP Manufacturing and Business partners.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Experience with Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), low and medium voltage switchgear systems.
- Experience leading and mentoring teams, managing the project work process, and delivering results.
- Knowledge of electrical engineering best practices and principles, standards, and codes such as the NEC code and NFPA 70E.
- Knowledge of EasyPower and/or ETAP Power Systems Software.
- Experience with arc flash and elevated incident energy reduction techniques.
- Experience with protective relay systems.
- A willingness to travel up to 50% of the time to support project needs.
What Will Put You Ahead
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field, or at least 10 years of relatable experience in electrical engineering.
- Project Management experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) License.
- Demonstrated experience with equipment protection systems (motors, feeders, and transformers) and their functionality.
- Pulp and paper, chemical, or petroleum industry work experience.
For this role, we anticipate paying $125k - $180k per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
