Your Job
The Coater Process Engineer, based in Bascharage plant, primarily supports production operations, provides technical assistance with glass and color chemistry, raw material evaluations and process troubleshooting. In addition, the Engineer fulfills operations requests for product modification and development.
What You Will Do
- Readily available for troubleshooting production issues and conducting line trials
- Investigate raw material, product quality issues and customer claims
- Continuously improve production processes to reduce variability and incrementally improve process and product performance as well as reducing cost
- Statistical analysis of process data to identify trends and their correlation to product performance in close collaboration with the Remote Asset Engineering team
- Contribute to improving safety and housekeeping standards
- Manage the improvement of new products and deposition processes across department boundaries, making efficient use of the capabilities of the operational excellence and research groups as well as other coater plants
- Execution of improvement/development runs to agreed schedules, documentation and communication of the outcomes
- Participate in field testing of new or improved products
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Degree (Bachelor, Master or PhD) in Physics, Material Science, Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Proven experience directly supporting operations in a production setting
- Significant experience with glass products (preferred) or plastics, coatings, or chemicals
- Knowledge of thin film evaluation and materials testing techniques, such as spectrophotometry, ellipsometry, and optical modelling program packages
- Knowledge of low vacuum equipment and surface preparation equipment
- Experience with statistical methods and analysis techniques
- Fluency in French and English (any additional language would be a plus)
What Will Put You Ahead
- Metrology and audit experience is a plus
- Effectively use Microsoft Excel and Word; Access and Minitab experience is a plus
- Proven experience with thin film deposition processes, specifically experience in magnetron sputtering (Physical Vapour Deposition) would be a plus
- Results oriented team player, self-motivated, creative, and adaptable to a dynamic environment
- Assertive, ability to take charge and lead with confidence where necessary
- Ability to clearly and professionally present and communicate ideas, concepts and project plans at multiple levels
- Strong analytical skills, experienced in using effective trouble shooting and problem solving techniques
- Some travel will be required in this role, including to customer sites and other coater plants.
