Molex is seeking a Senior Vision Automation Engineer to develop and implement advanced machine vision, laser scanning, and automated inspection solutions that enhance manufacturing quality, productivity, and operational excellence. In this role, you will leverage automation, software innovation, and vision technologies to support new product introductions, improve manufacturing processes, and drive technology advancement across our operations.
Our Team
You will be part of the DataCom and Specialty Solutions Division, working closely with Manufacturing Engineering (ME), Product Development Engineering (DPE), Quality, Automation, and cross-functional teams. The team focuses on advancing manufacturing capabilities through automation, machine vision systems, robotics integration, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You Will Do
- Lead the development, implementation, and optimization of machine vision, laser scanning, and automated inspection solutions to improve manufacturing quality, productivity, and operational performance.
- Manage automation and vision system projects, ensuring effective planning, budget management, resource utilization, and on-time delivery of key initiatives.
- Drive new product inspection readiness by partnering with Mechanical Design, Controls, Product Design, AQP/QA, and Assembly Engineering teams to support successful product launches and robust manufacturability.
- Lead qualification and validation activities, including measurement verification, correlation studies, process capability assessments, and GR&R, ensuring compliance with internal and customer requirements.
- Establish strong documentation and governance practices through the development and maintenance of study reports, SOPs, training records, and audit-ready engineering documentation.
- Develop organizational capability by conducting training, mentoring engineers and technicians, and promoting best practices in machine vision technologies and inspection systems.
- Lead productivity, quality, and cost-reduction initiatives through machine enhancements, process improvements, and data-driven engineering solutions.
- Provide technical leadership for machine duplication, equipment transfers, capacity expansion projects, and the successful qualification and ramp-up of production equipment.
- Collaborate with machine vendors and suppliers to develop innovative solutions involving robotics, controls, software integration, machine vision, laser scanning, and advanced inspection technologies.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for machine vision, laser scanners, and 3D inspection technologies while supporting technical problem solving, innovation initiatives, and cross-functional engineering collaboration.
- Drive knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and innovation by promoting lessons learned, challenging existing methods, and fostering a culture that prevents re-invention across the organization.
- Demonstrate and uphold Principle Based Management (PBM®) values in decision-making, leadership, and daily interactions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of experience in machine vision, scanner, X-ray inspection systems, or industrial automation development and implementation.
- Experience developing and implementing machine vision inspection applications within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of machine vision systems, optics, lighting technologies, automation, and industrial software applications.
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver automation and manufacturing solutions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Experience integrating vision systems with robotics, industrial controls, and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Software development experience for machine vision and inspection applications.
- Experience with 3D vision systems, laser scanners, advanced inspection technologies, or AI-based inspection solutions.
- Knowledge of statistical validation methods including GR&R, capability studies, and measurement system analysis.
- Experience leading manufacturing process improvements, automation projects, and capacity expansion initiatives.
- Proven ability to mentor technical teams and drive knowledge-sharing across the organization.
