As an Engineering Manager for Connected Device Integration (CDI) in Japan, you will lead a multidisciplinary engineering team developing automotive connectivity and charging solutions for Japanese OEM customers. This role combines people leadership, customer-facing technical engagement, and global development coordination across Japan, North America, India, Germany, and China.
You will play a key role in delivering innovative connected device technologies while developing engineering talent and strengthening customer relationships. This position is based in Minatomirai, Yokohama, with hybrid work flexibility and an expectation to work from the office at least three days per week.
Our Team
The Connected Device Integration (CDI) team in Japan develops in-vehicle USB, charging, and connectivity products for Japanese automotive OEM customers. The team works closely with Molex engineering centers in North America, India, Germany, China, and Southeast Asia to develop technologies that support connected and future mobility solutions.
As part of Transportation Innovative Solutions (TIS), you will collaborate across engineering, product management, quality, sales, and program management functions to bring innovative solutions from concept through production.
What You Will Do
• Lead and supervise a team designing and developing automotive connected devices for infotainment, in-vehicle charging, and related applications.
• Lead a multidisciplinary engineering organization including electrical, mechanical, test, and field application engineering (FAE) resources.
• Own Japanese OEM request-for-quotation (RFQ) activities from initial analysis through design reviews and phase gate approvals.
• Coordinate engineering activities across global development centers to meet customer, cost, quality, and timing expectations.
• Supervise customer-facing technical discussions, design reviews, and manage engineering escalations.
• Partner with Sales, Product Management, Program Management, Quality, and Requirements Management teams to execute customer programs successfully.
• Establish team priorities, objectives, and accountability mechanisms that enable successful project execution.
• Recruit, mentor, coach, and develop engineering talent while fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
• Support the development and commercialization of automotive connectivity and charging solutions for current and future mobility platforms.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
• Experience designing mechanical products, automotive electronic products, or related connected device technologies.
• Experience working with Japanese automotive OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers in product development, RFQ response, requirements definition, or technical customer engagement.
• Experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating engineering teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent engineering experience.
• Experience supporting automotive product development from concept through production.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as business needs require.
• Business-level Japanese and English communication skills.
What Will Put You Ahead
• Advanced degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Experience with automotive connectivity products, including USB hubs, charging solutions, USB Type-C technologies, or USB Power Delivery.
• Experience with Electromagnetic Compatibility/Electromagnetic Interference (EMC/EMI), thermal design, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Design Review Based on Failure Mode (DRBFM).
• Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams across multiple regions and time zones.
• Direct experience supporting Japanese automotive OEM customers and major Tier-1 suppliers.
• Experience managing cross-functional development efforts involving multiple engineering disciplines and international stakeholders.
