What You Will Do In Your Role
- Actively drive the power systems team's growth by developing procedures, templates, and workflows, while identifying new technologies and tools to optimize overall personnel productivity.
- Create and review generic and user-defined plant models (using PSS/E and PSCAD) for initial and final submissions, covering utility-scale solar, energy storage, substations, gen-ties, and switchyards.
- Develop system-level plant models for steady-state and transient AC studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, grounding, transient over-voltage, and harmonics.
- Partner with Lead Design Engineers to align system studies with equipment selection and infrastructure ratings, while providing subject matter expertise to internal business groups.
- Act as a subject matter expert in testing and model validation, collaborating closely with SCADA partners to develop automated packages and remotely test NERC MOD requirements.
- Lead technical and non-technical discussions with employees and customers, manage a vendor equipment database, and effectively prioritize competing project demands to meet deadlines.
The Experience You Will Bring
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) with an active Mexican professional license (Cédula Profesional - SEP), a valid driving license, and an active US visa/passport for short-term travel.
- At least 3 years of experience in power system analysis, covering both transient and steady-state analysis, guided by strong fundamental engineering principles.
- Advanced experience with steady-state and transient analysis software, such as PSLF, PSS/E, PSCAD, EMTP, ASPEN, SKM, ETAP, CDEGS, or CYME.
- Deep understanding of detailed and equivalent modeling, with a proven ability to identify system-level constraints and flag unreasonable model values.
- Practical, hands-on substation experience, including point-to-point wiring, equipment selection, and general infrastructure design.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, combined with a proven track record of managing deadlines and expectations for multiple parallel projects.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Proven experience working as a consultant and successfully managing energy or industrial projects.
- Solid knowledge of model validation and testing requirements in compliance with NERC, regional ISO, and utility regulations.
- Proficiency in engineering software like ETAP, hands-on programming expertise in Python, and familiarity with template drawings, sheet-set managers, and smart-blocks.
- Practical experience in designing substations, gen-ties, and switchyards, along with a strong understanding of Balance of Plant (BOP) concepts.
- In-depth knowledge of utility-scale solar systems, energy storage solutions, and repowering services.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) registration or license in either the United States or Canada.
